A Comparison between a Technological and a Classical University

Abstract

This study aims to compare the university model through the academic production of professors teaching in undergraduate programs at a technological university with those at a traditional university. This is a comparative study. The research corpus was made up of curricula available on the Lattes Platform of 1,017 teachers of undergraduate courses at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and the Federal Technological University - Paraná (UTFPR), considering the period between 2013 and 2017. The KDD process was used to analyze the data collected. The results show that the production of undergraduate professors at UFPR is more consistent and qualified than those at UTFPR. Issues related to the period of the study and the consolidation of research can explain the results. The conclusion is that UTFPR is very close to the classic university model.

PhD in Teaching of Science and Technology from the Federal Technological University of Paraná, Master in Applied Social Sciences from the State University of Ponta Grossa (2014), specialization in Physical Activity and Health at Faculdade Dom Bosco, has a degree in Physical Education from the State University of Ponta Grossa (2000). He is a collaborating professor at Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa in the Undergraduate and Bachelor courses in Physical Education and professor at Instituição de Ensino Superior Santana.Owner and Coordinator of the Football School of Clube Atlético Paranaense for 8 years. Coordinator of Physical Education at Sociedade Educacional Professor Altair Mongruel - Colégio SEPAM. Has experience in Physical Education, with emphasis on Physical Education, working mainly on the following topics: teaching, technology, health, soccer and sociology.
