The employability of Management Information Systems (MIS) professionals has become an issue that cannot be ignored in the global economy. Therefore, the aim of this study is to understand how the scientific literature has addressed the issues of employability and information technology professionals. A total of 51 studies were selected as the most relevant in four decades of scientific publications. The results suggest discussions on restructuring MIS curricula to meet market demand; a repositioning in the role of the IT professional and of information technology itself in organizations and market demands for these professionals, with special emphasis on the development of soft skills.
