This work qualitatively investigates the potential of non-formal spaces in complementing of a school education forged in formal institutions and in the contributions provided for scientific dissemination, taking as a reference a case study involving, The Theory of General Relativity (TRG) and the Museum of Eclipse. The study was carried out through a field research supported by interviews and questionnaires, in which were involved people who make up the Sobral’s population, the director, the former director of the Eclipse Museum and former employees of the institution. The results point to the importance of commitment to the city, education and memory; to the necessity of permanent investments of continuous flow in the multiple educational spaces and incentive the interaction optimizing the school education and efficiency of them, and to the fact that the local school curricula have not properly honored regional scientific and cultural knowledge, leading to a deficient basic training on the part of citizens. Due to this deficit, it was realized that they have not acquired the necessary knowledge to understand facts relevant to the scientific explanation of the astronomical phenomenon observed and recorded in the city a little over a century ago and that contributed notably to the confirmation of the TGR.
