Abstract

Communication is essential to all peoples, expressed through symbolic forms that shape human, community, and natural relationships. Among Indigenous peoples, it acquires complexity by integrating science, art, and spirituality in a dynamic that involves both living and non-living beings, making use of instruments, rituals, chants, dances, and other tools. This essay seeks to deepen the notion of Ancestral Communication, understanding it as a complex network of interactions between humans, nature, and spirits. The central issue is the invisibilization of Indigenous modes of communication and knowledge construction, intensified by the hegemony of Western thought. Making visible these practices of the science of the ancients is urgent to strengthen cultural diversity, rethink the relationship between human–nature–spirit, and also to offer contributions to the field of Communication Sciences. The hypothesis argues that Ancestral Communication is a sensitive and complex system capable of inspiring new ethical, epistemological, and ecological relations. Authors such as Ailton Krenak, Davi Kopenawa, Marcia Kambeba, Edgar Morin, Lévi-Strauss, Sodré, and Conceição Almeida sustain the importance of ancestral knowledge for regenerating the planet. The continuity of Indigenous communicative practices, despite colonization and its historical violence, reveals their vital force and relevance for the Sciences. This essay intends to be expanded and consolidated with a methodology that includes theoretical-critical analysis of Indigenous and non-Indigenous authors, listening to oral narratives, practices of sensitive communicative experimentation, and the use of Cartography, a strategy developed by Andrielle Guilherme, to map these practices. It also proposes dialogue with contemporary technologies to update and disseminate these knowledges.
