Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is 1.5-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, available in the Submissions section of the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

Dialektiké – Journal of Philosophy accepts submissions of essays, articles, philosophical poems, reviews, translations, experience reports, and texts intended for thematic dossiers, provided they are unpublished and comply with the editorial criteria established by the journal. Only unpublished works by professors and researchers will be accepted. Manuscripts simultaneously submitted to other journals must include a justification in the "Comments to the editor" field. Submissions by undergraduate or master's students will only be considered if co-authored with their academic advisors or with other researchers.

Submissions must be made through registration on the journal’s portal (https://www2.ifrn.edu.br/ojs/index.php/dialektike/about/submissions), and the file must be in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) or equivalent. All texts must be typed in Times New Roman font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing. For submissions originating in Brazil, authors must also follow the complementary formatting guidelines of ABNT standards.

Essays and articles may be written in Portuguese, English, Spanish, or French and must be between 15 and 30 pages in length. They should present a rigorous philosophical approach, resulting from research, critical reflection, or conceptual discussion. Manuscripts must be accompanied by an abstract in Portuguese (up to 200 words) and 3 to 5 keywords in alphabetical order. If written in a foreign language, the text must also include a Portuguese abstract. Footnotes should be used for explanatory notes, and bibliographic references must appear at the end of the document.

Philosophical poems must address themes of ethical, political, existential, metaphysical, or epistemological nature. The submission must include both the poem and a brief explanatory commentary demonstrating the philosophical grounding of the work. The minimum total length of the submission (poem + commentary) is 3 pages. If the poem is written in English, Spanish, or French, it must be accompanied by a Portuguese abstract and a translation of the poem into Portuguese; the commentary may remain in the original language.

Reviews must be written in Portuguese, with a length between 3 and 10 pages. They must include a title, full bibliographic data of the reviewed work, and the name of the author. Reviews are expected to include conceptual analysis, contextualization, and a reasoned philosophical position on the discussed work.

Translations will be accepted upon presentation of legal authorization for publication, except in the case of works in the public domain. The responsibility for obtaining publication rights lies with the translator. Only translations of philosophically relevant texts that align with the journal’s editorial scope will be considered.

Experience reports with philosophical, pedagogical, or institutional relevance are also accepted, as long as they articulate practice, critical reflection, and conceptual grounding. These texts must provide a contextualized description of the experience, a reflective analysis, and theoretical references to philosophical authors. Submissions must be between 10 and 30 pages long and must be written exclusively in Portuguese.

Thematic dossiers are organized by guest editors with recognized academic work in the chosen subject. The texts submitted to these dossiers must be unpublished, meet the public call, and follow the same formal requirements applicable to essays and articles. Researchers interested in proposing a dossier must contact the journal’s managing editor.

All submitted works will be evaluated by two reviewers (members of the Editorial Board or ad hoc consultants) based on criteria such as originality, philosophical consistency, and thematic relevance. The journal adopts a double-blind peer review process to ensure anonymity between authors and reviewers. If the author wishes to include information such as email address or academic affiliation, these should appear in a footnote and will be removed prior to review.

Once a manuscript is accepted, the author will be given a short period to implement any corrections requested by the reviewers. Evaluations will be recorded using a standardized review form. The copyright of published texts belongs to Dialektiké – Journal of Philosophy, and republication is permitted only with prior authorization from the editors.

Authors will be notified via email regarding the acceptance or rejection of their submissions. The average response time is two to three months. Manuscripts by the same author will not be published in consecutive issues, except in the case of thematic editions. Authors may choose to wait for publication in a future issue.

All authors must follow the specific formatting and citation instructions available in the General Guidelines section on the journal’s website, in order to streamline the evaluation and editing process. Dialektiké – Journal of Philosophy does not charge any submission, review, or publication fees.
